SANSYLATE-500

Etamsylate 500 mg

Sansylate (Ethamsylate) is a type of hemostatic agents. It belongs to category of hemostatic agents drugs. It is a homeostatic drug that is believed to work by increasing capillary endothelial resistance and promoting platelet adhesion. It also inhibits biosynthesis and action of those prostaglandins which cause platelet disaggregation, vasodilation and increased capillary permeability.

Indications

• Menorrhagia
• Heamoptysis
• Haematuria
• Haemorrhage

Dosage

The usual dose is One tablet thrice daily

• Menorrhagia 
  500 mg 4 times/day during menstruation
• Hemorrhage after surgery 
  500 mg 4-6 hourly

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity and porphyria (a blood disorder)

Precautions

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of coeliac disease, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• During pregnancy and lactation
• Elderly

Side effects

Headache, skin rash, nausea, and low blood pressure

Increased toxicity : MAO inhibitors hallucination
