Bifidobacterium and lactobacillus is a medical food used as a probiotic, or “friendly bacteria” to maintain a healthy digestive tract (stomach and intestines). It may also help maintain healthy bacteria in the vagina.
Bifidobacterium and lactobacillus is used in people with irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, or an ileal pouch. Bifidobacterium and lactobacillus is also used in women to support vaginal health.
Not all uses for bifidobacterium and lactobacillus have been approved by the FDA. Bifidobacterium and lactobacillus should not be used in place of medication prescribed for you by your doctor.
Bifidobacterium and lactobacillus may also be used for purposes not listed in this product guide.
Do not use this product without medical advice. Follow all directions on the product label and package. Tell each of your healthcare providers about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
If you have any of the following health problems, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this product: diarrhea lasting more than 2 days (especially if you also have a high fever), weakened immune system (such as due to chemotherapy, HIV infection), recurring vaginal infections, recurring urinary tract infections.
Liquid products, foods, powders, or chewable tablets may contain sugar and/or aspartame. Caution is advised if you have diabetes, phenylketonuria (PKU), or any other condition that requires you to limit/avoid these substances in your diet. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about using this product safely.
An increase in stomach gas or bloating may occur. If this effect persists or worsens, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Tell your doctor right away if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: signs of infection (such as high fever, chills, persistent cough).
A very serious allergic reaction to this product is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.
